Story of ‘Mrs. Surji Devi’ was written after speaking with three generations of her family, as she is no more, and I received the abstract for her story from her grandson who is an IIT alumnus.
Mrs. Surji Devi was born in early 1900s, in Rajasthan, India, and her story titled 'To BE or Not To BE' talks about how, in the era of pre-independent India, Mrs. Surji Devi stood for her rights, and her life, and the impact of her courage could be seen in even in the third generation of her family.
To me, life of Mrs. Surji Devi is an example women empowerment.
